Excerpt
Like other Fungus Folk, Abel is a rather oblong guy with a stocky build. He’s more rounded than some of the other Folk, with a potbelly and sturdy legs holding up an affable, ever-present smile. He’s got a brown, lightly scaled mushroom cap, behind which hangs a decorative backpack of human make, and a scarf around his shoulders that looks similar to the fabric used at the Abbey.
Me? Oh, I’m just a Fungus Folk making a simple living with the rest of the colony in our little slice of the island. I’m a pretty fun guy for a fungi! Heh, that one always gets Tomic. He’s my friend, y’see — I’m awful glad he sent you up here to help us clean out this awful gas blockage, and I’m also very relieved our octopus Morticia didn’t turn you to fertilizer on the way in.
